Webinar Recap: Shapefiles for R Programmers

Last week I ran two webinars on my new course, Shapefiles for R Programmers. If you were interested in watching, but unable attend, you can watch a replay below:

Some thoughts on webinars

I ran my first webinar about 6 months ago. Before running it I was unsure what to expect. However, it immediately became clear that the medium has a huge potential. Unlike writing a blog post, I can have a real time conversation with people who are interested in my niche – it’s very powerful!

Since that initial webinar I’ve experimented with different webinar providers and formats. While I don’t claim to be a webinar expert, I do think that I’ve found something that works for both me and my readers. To commemorate this I’ve now added a webinars section to my website. Currently only this webinar is available, but I do plan to add others soon.

I don’t have a date yet for my next webinar, but I do know the topic. Regular readers will recall that on May 17 I am running a live workshop at UC Berkeley titled Mapping Open Data in R. After the event I plan to rewrite the in-person workshop as a webinar. Stay tuned for details!

Ari – how did the live workshop go? Looked like you had high attendance at the event.

Thanks for asking! It went very well. I will be having an announcement about it here next week. I’m going to try and deliver the same talk as a webinar.
